Weathered Crest - Broken Column (full EP)

Weathered Crest is a black metal band from Linz, Austria. Among its members is Vritra, well-known for Brånd, Kringa, Gates of Londra, etc. I like to see Weathered Crest as the more traditionally black metal counterpart to Brånd, even though it mantains some post-punk influence. Plus, I admit I'm not familiar with Kringa just yet and they might be even more traditional. Broken Column is the band's debut EP, which sees Vritra as the only member. It was released in 2021 by Into Endless Chaos on vinyl and by Vritra's own Födweg on tape. The music here contained is raw and straightforward, every now and then allowing itself a post-punkish escapade. It's a prelude to everything that made Blossoming of the Paths (the subsequent full-length) so great, giving everyone a taste before fully diving into this black metal realm of decay, where remnants of beauty occasionally shine through all the murk and darkness.
