안녕하세요, 히든서울입니다. 오늘은 경기도 파주시 법원읍의 오래된 거리와 골목을 걸어봅니다. 법원읍은 한국전쟁 이후 인근에 미군부대가 주둔하면서 많은 사람과 상점이 모여들었던 곳입니다. 한때는 지금보다 훨씬 많은 사람들이 오가며 지역 상권도 활기를 띠었지만, 이후 미군부대가 떠나고 주변 환경이 변화하면서 동네의 모습도 조금씩 달라졌습니다. 이번 영상에서는 법원읍의 오래된 중심 거리와 자유시장 주변을 천천히 둘러봅니다. 한때 많은 사람들이 찾았던 자유시장은 지금은 문을 닫은 점포가 많아 한산한 모습이지만, 거리 곳곳에는 오랫동안 이 동네와 함께해 온 작은 상점과 오래된 건물들이 남아 있습니다. 시장 뒤편으로 들어가면 벽화가 그려진 조용한 골목과 오래된 주택들이 이어집니다. 화려한 관광지는 아니지만, 골목을 걷다 보면 한때 번화했던 법원읍의 시간과 지금 이곳에서 이어지고 있는 평범한 일상의 풍경을 함께 만나게 됩니다. 빠르게 변해가는 도시에서 조금은 느린 시간으로 남아 있는 법원읍의 모습을 조용히 기록해 봅니다. 오늘도 서울과 그 주변의 기억을 모아갑니다. Hello, this is Hidden Seoul. Today, we visit Beopwon-eup, a quiet town in Paju, not far from Seoul. In the decades following the Korean War, this area grew with the presence of U.S. military forces stationed nearby. Shops, restaurants, and other local businesses developed as more people gathered here, and Beopwon-eup became a lively and bustling town. Even today, parts of the neighborhood still preserve traces of what this Korean town looked like in the 1950s and 1960s. But the town began to change significantly in the 1970s. As the U.S. military presence was reduced, the local population declined and the commercial district gradually lost much of its former activity. Streets that had once been filled with people became much quieter over time. During our walk, we pass through Jayu Market, an old local market where many storefronts are now closed. The quiet market and its surrounding streets still reveal traces of a time when this area was much busier. Behind the market, narrow residential alleys lead into Daeneung 4-ri Mural Village. The village preserves elements of the old neighborhood, while murals were later added through community projects to bring new life to the aging area. Old shops, modest houses, faded signs, narrow alleys, and small details of everyday life remain throughout the neighborhood. Beopwon-eup is not a famous tourist destination, nor is it filled with spectacular landmarks. But perhaps that is what makes this place interesting. Here, the story of a once-bustling Korean town can still be discovered in ordinary streets — from memories of the postwar decades to the quiet neighborhood that remains today. Today, we quietly walk through Beopwon-eup and record the traces of time that still remain.
