Sony Is About To Cave

Sony may be getting closer to reversing course on physical media. Sony recently sent out a new PlayStation user survey asking players about their experience with the PlayStation brand — and importantly, the survey included free-form text fields where users could actually tell Sony what they think. On its own, this might not mean much. But this isn't happening in a vacuum. We've now seen multiple signs pointing toward Sony reconsidering its approach to physical games, and this latest survey is yet another data point that makes me wonder if Sony is finally starting to listen. I don't think saving physical media was ever going to come down to one single battle. It was always going to be a long war made up of many, many battles — consumers pushing back, developers speaking out, retailers reacting, and now potentially Sony directly asking PlayStation users what they think. And at this point, I'm starting to believe Sony may actually reverse course. Is Sony about to cave and bring physical media back in a bigger way?
