In this episode, we are taking a deep dive into the stunning—and sometimes heartbreaking—history of Long Island, Nova Scotia, right along the rugged edge of the Bay of Fundy. We kick the road trip off by driving up Lighthouse Road to Boar's Head, where I share the tragic, little-known story of keeper Henry Ruggles and the deadly secret hiding in the lighthouse’s water supply. From there, we head down to the rocky shore at Flour Cove. I always assumed this spot was named after a doomed schooner spilling flour into the bay, but as you'll see, the real reason is completely different! Further down the island, we stop to admire the incredible coastal views at Beautiful Cove in Freeport, where we remember the Greek shipwreck of the SS Aikaterini T. and the incredible compassion shown by the local Freeport community during WWII. Finally, we take a scenic cruise around Freeport village before heading back down the island to finish our tour at the trailhead of the famous Balancing Rock.
