Melt and Pour Soap from Scratch Without Using Alcohol

I found a fellow soaper's blog (Oil & Butter) on making a melt and pour soap base from scratch without having to use ethanol, so I decided to give it a try. The soap base came out quite well. I did have to crank up my crockpot to the high setting to get all the soap melted and it took a bit longer than what was stated in the recipe, but that may be because crockpots differ and mine may be set at a lower temperature. I really like the end product and the only hitch is that, compared to commercial melt and pour bases, this one requires a higher temperature to melt it (upwards of 175F) and hardens very rapidly so you need to work fast and may have challenges with fragrances that have a low flashpoint. My melt and pour soapmaking technique is still in its infancy so the finished soap is not too pretty. However, this is an exciting new recipe that I'll use again for sure.
