90 Seconds Without Radar: What Fails First?

April 28, 2025: the air traffic control room guiding planes into Newark lost radar and radio for about 90 seconds. We run that clock in real time. You're not in that room. You're at the gate. What fails first isn't what stays gone longest. So bet: the radar, the radio, or your departure? Three real days. Three causes, each smaller than the last. One you could lose in your pocket. One that weighs nothing at all. One you couldn't find with a microscope. Newark in April 2025, then Britain in August 2023 and on September 8, 2026. Along the way: who actually guides arriving planes (hint: not the glass tower). And the part nobody bets on: what the system does next. No alarms in this one. A silent radio has a written rule, and crews fly on by the book. The cost that reaches you is time on the ground, and it isn't small: more than 2,000 flights were delayed, cancelled or diverted on September 8, 2026, and the August 2023 failure hit over 700,000 passengers (the regulator's estimate). None of this means the system is fine. The fine print. The April 2025 cause comes from an audit announcement, not a final report. The September 2026 timeline follows the operator's preliminary report, so times may change; the independent review is due in March 2027. Where the video says safety held on the two British days, that is the operator's statement. Anything marked OUR READING on screen is our interpretation, not the reports'. Scenes labelled ILLUSTRATION are not footage of the real rooms or events.
