Preventing Lung Cancer: Radon and Healthcare Providers (Webinar recording)

Radon is well documented as the second-leading cause of lung cancer after tobacco, and the leading cause among non-smokers. Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive, colorless, and odorless gas produced from the decay of uranium found in the soil. Although radon is naturally occurring, increased concentrations can accumulate indoors by rising up through the soil and entering homes and buildings through openings including cracks in foundations, joints, service pipes and sump pits. This webinar explores the issue of radon from a healthcare prospective and shares best practices for incorporating radon education into a healthcare setting. After viewing this webinar, participants will be able to: describe radon and exposure-associated health risks; explain the importance of home testing and mitigation; recognize a need for healthcare providers to share radon information with patients, staff, and community members; and demonstrate strategies for incorporating radon education into the healthcare setting.
