Oasis Location: Manchester, England, U.K Venue: NYNEX Arena Date: 26th November 1995 Source: Audience Recording Returning to their home town for the first time in almost a year, the boys put on a great show. The comparisons here really show how massive Oasis had gone in one year. This time last year they were playing in the Manchester Academy to just over 2,000 people. And tonight, they play to 21,000 in the NYNEX Arena. And it’s funny that tonight is where Noel gives a rare thank you to the audience about their support the past year as even he must’ve been thinking how quickly the band blew up in popularity. Anyways, the setlist is packed tonight after being slightly truncated on the last couple shows which results in four songs being added back into the setlist, those being; Rock N’ Roll Star (replacing Whatever), Round Are Way, Cigarettes And Alcohol and Shakermaker. Unfortunately for Shakermaker, this is it’s last performance for a while, not being heard again until after the new year rolls around. While it was continuously being alternated throughout late 1995, Shakermaker would feature more often the following year. Captured on a not very good tape, there was some speed issues, which have all been fixed here. The performance is a very good one as per the standard of 1995 as everyone is very tight for the most part. The performance is also elevated by the fantastic Manchester crowd. Overall, Liam sounds very good (definitely far better than Boston) and does well on songs like Some Might Say and Cigarettes And Alcohol. The band are very tight too. While there aren’t as many stand-out moments here as there were on the Earls Court shows it’s still an enjoyable show, and the more expanded set is something fun to listen to again after several key songs were missing the last couple nights and the audience are very enthusiastic to sing along. After this gig, the band would take a small break from touring as Noel played two gigs supporting Paul Weller, and he along with the other members (minus Liam) would feature on Later…With Jools Holland. The tour would soon resume in Seattle on the 2nd of December.
