Episode 7 of The Motocross Project UK continues my journey of learning motocross in my 30s, going from a complete beginner rider to entering my first motocross race. Following the AJ Catanzaro Moto Academy training camp, I’m back on my Honda CRF250R, trying to put the correct motocross technique into practice, build confidence, improve my cornering and jumping, and make genuine progress with every ride. What begins as another full day of UK motocross riding takes a frightening turn during a session. A serious motocross crash occurs and within seconds, the entire mood of the day changes. The footage shows the moment everything goes wrong, but it doesn’t reveal just how serious the situation would eventually become. While a trackside paramedic carefully assesses the situation, everyone can only stand back, wait and hope that the person involved is going to be all right. At that moment, nobody knows the full extent of what has happened. It isn’t until later at A&E that the true severity of the accident becomes clear, and the injuries are far more serious than anyone at the track initially realised. This episode starts by following the progression, challenges and enjoyment of learning to ride motocross, but it ends with a harsh reminder of just how quickly everything can change.
