This is the first part of a mind-blowing adventure with Tawada Travel to the second highest mountain in Morocco, Ighil Nmgoun. It is situated in the heart of the High Atlas mountain chain within géopark Mgoun exactly between the province of Azilal and Kalaat Mgouna. full details Part One: The departure was from Beni Mellal at 3:00 am through Afourer, Azilal, Ait Abbas, Agouti to Aarous where we met Our muleteer Mr. Mohammed. We had a traditional breakfast that included hot bread baked on traditional oven (innour), natural butter, honey and olive oil all together with tea. After that, we prepared all what we need for hiking and the multeer took care of the heavy supplies. We started walking through a relatively plain areas until we reached Ikis N'arous, a beautiful plain with green spaces and running creeks. It was late harvest time which goes sometimes to late July according to our guide. We enjoyed the place for a while before resuming our trip. Later, the vegetation grow scarce as we were ascending. We made our way through the mountains before stopping by a water source for a break to get some nuts and water to boost our energy. Then, we kept walking again. At noon, we met our muleteer who had already reached Tizi Oumskiyq in order to have lunch which lasted for about 30 minutes . The ascension grew harder as we kept walking; our breath turned shorter and finally reach the ridge. We stopped there to catch our breath and enjoy the panoramic view of Plateau Tarkeddit down from us and the chain of Mgoun in the horizon. The descent to Tarekedit was a bit hard but cool. After a long walk of about 45 minutes we reached the bivouac in Tarkeddit a vast green area surrounded by mountains from everywhere. We set up our camp next to the water source. It was chilly out there, we prepared tea to celebrate the end of the first part. As it turned dark, we had our dinner and went to bed early to be ready for the following morning (to the Summit).
