Driving China’s Border Gorge Roads 4K HDR - Xinjiang’s Majestic Mountains Near Kazakhstan

On this trip, we’ll follow China’s G219 Highway through the mountains near the China–Kazakhstan border in western Xinjiang. The route starts in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture and winds through mountain valleys, deep gorges, and along steep hillsides. The road follows the terrain, with views of rocky slopes, river valleys, and forests along the way. As the elevation changes, the scenery shifts between narrow valleys and more open stretches with views of the surrounding mountains. One of the main landmarks along the route is the Dahongnahai Tunnel, which passes through a mountain divide. Beyond the tunnel, the road continues through a mix of tight mountain valleys and wider sections with views across the ridgelines. The journey ends near Zhaosu County, where the mountains give way to broad valleys, grasslands, and open pasture. Zhaosu is known for its long history of horse breeding and is often called the “Home of Heavenly Horses” in China. The area was also part of the homeland of the ancient Wusun people.
