Narottama Dāsa Ṭhākura’s Hā Hā Prabhu Nityānanda is a heartfelt appeal for the mercy of Lord Nityānanda. It is the prayer of a soul worn down by the restless suffering of material existence, longing for shelter at the feet of the Lord whose compassion extends even to the most fallen.
This interpretation brings the traditional Vaiṣṇava prayer into the intimate world of Appalachian folk music. A weathered, unguarded voice moves over acoustic guitar and sparse fiddle, carrying the feeling of someone who has wandered far from home but has not abandoned hope. The arrangement remains deliberately simple, allowing every word to carry the weight of loneliness, longing, and trust.
Throughout the song, the burning restlessness of the world stands against the cooling mercy of Nityānanda. There is no grand resolution, only the quiet conviction that shelter can still be found. The recurring prayer says everything: “Kṛpā-balokana koro, āmi boro duḥkhī” — cast Your merciful glance upon me; I am deeply sorrowful.

O Lord Nityānanda, hear my cry,
Have mercy on a soul like me.
Lost and fallen, far from home,
Still I come and call to Thee.

Āmi boro duḥkhī.
Hā Hā Prabhu Nityānanda,

VERSE 2
Give me shelter at Your feet,
Cool as moonlight on the ground.
In this burning world I’ve wandered,
Still no resting place I’ve found.
REFRAIN
Hā Hā Prabhu Nityānanda,
Premānanda sukhī,
Kṛpā-balokana koro,

Even one as lost as I am
May find shelter at Your feet.
