The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me. In Isaiah 61, the Hebrew sets a wordplay on "beauty for ashes": pe'er (a crown, a beautiful headdress) in place of epher (ash). The "liberty" is deror, the Jubilee release when debts are erased and captives go home. I built this as a cinematic gospel and contemporary worship song with piano, oud, frame drum, shofar, and a full choir for anyone sitting in the ashes right now. [Intro: soft solo piano, warm ambient pads, distant shofar-like horn swell, gentle and expectant] [Verse 1: hushed male vocal, sparse piano, light cello underneath] The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me He has anointed Me, set Me apart Good news for the humble and the lowly He sent Me to bind up the broken heart [Verse 2: add soft frame drum pulse, oud melody weaving through] Liberty to every captive Like the Jubilee, every debt erased Prison doors are opened wide Blinded eyes now see His face [Pre-Chorus: strings rise, building tension, choir hums enter] This is the year of favor The season of His grace The Lord has come to comfort Every tear He will replace [Chorus: full band, soaring strings, gospel choir, triumphant and joyful] Beauty for ashes, a crown where sorrow lay Oil of joy for mourning, He has washed my grief away A garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness I'm wrapped in His glory, I'm clothed in righteousness [Instrumental Break: oud and strings duet, frame drum builds, shofar horn call] [Verse 3: steady groove, warm bass, hopeful tone] A flickering flame about to fade He breathed on me and made me strong Now I stand, a tree of righteousness Rooted deep where I belong [Bridge: drop to piano and voice, then gradual build with choir and drums] The planting of the Lord Planted by His hand That His beauty may be seen In every place I stand The planting of the Lord Oaks that will not fall That He may be glorified Through it all [Chorus: key change up, full orchestra, choir in call and response] Beauty for ashes, a crown where sorrow lay Oil of joy for mourning, He has washed my grief away A garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness I'm wrapped in His glory, I'm clothed in righteousness [Outro Verse: anthemic, marching drums, rising brass, choir declaring] And we will rebuild the ancient ruins Raise up what was torn down Repair the broken cities Generations restored and crowned [Final Tag: music falls away to soft piano and pads, single voice, shofar fades in the distance] The Spirit of the Lord is upon me The Spirit of the Lord is upon me Beauty for ashes Forever free [End] — The Spiritual Engineer
