For Spring/Summer 2027, Bora Aksu turns to the life and work of Mary Beale (1633–1699), one of the earliest women to establish herself as a successful professional artist. At a time when a woman’s role was largely defined by the home and marriage, she built a successful professional career through her art and ultimately became the main source of income for her family. The collection’s second dialogue is with Antep embroidery, a centuries-old craft from Gaziantep, Türkiye. Introduced to Aksu through Mayor Fatma Sahin, the tradition became a natural meeting point between heritage and contemporary design. The collection brings together two stories of women separated by centuries: Mary Beale, who challenged the boundaries of her time through art, and the women of Gaziantep, whose hands continue to preserve and reinvent an extraordinary craft. It is a collection about creative independence, equality, identity and the enduring power of women to redefine the roles history has given them.
