Chavat, or Chaturthi, is a special festival celebrated across Goa and the Konkan region, and with a special festival comes special food! In this episode, we explore some traditional vegetarian dishes prepared during Chavat. We make ‘Panchkhaje,’ a popular sweet traditionally made in different shapes, fried and filled with chana dal and jaggery. But this time, we give it a twist — our Panchkhaje is steamed and filled with grated coconut and jaggery. Along with Panchkhaje, we prepare fried bamboo shoots, a local delicacy commonly found around Dodamarg, on the Maharashtra–Goa border. We also make Heet, a traditional dish prepared in jackfruit leaves and especially made on the second day of Chaturthi. In this special Chavat episode, Shubhada Chari brings these traditional recipes to life, celebrating the flavours, traditions and memories of the Goa–Konkan region.
