There can be a big difference in how you live in a rental vs. how you live in your own home. When I talk to my friends who are renting homes or apartments…they say they dream of tearing down a wall or changing the flooring. They lament about the washer and dryer, saying things like “if owned this place, it would be a lot different.” My homeowner friends may say similar things, but the difference is who owns the house. Homeowners usually have a list of ’to dos’ that they want to eventually change. It may not get done right away, but because they own the place, they have the power to make it their own. In Ephesians 3, Paul wraps up the ‘who we are’ portion of the letter with a prayer. A prayer that we might be rooted and grounded in love and that Christ will dwell in our hearts. Not just rent out our heart’ but ’take up residence with the power to make it His own.’ If Christ lives in us…what does He want to see change?
