Where in the world can you not open YouTube? YouTube is blocked outright in 6 of them — China, North Korea, Iran, Turkmenistan, Eritrea and, since 12 February 2026, Russia — and opens with something taken away in 7 more, where the state cuts it for hours during opposition streams, forbids creators from filming living beings, demands an ID for every account or closes every account under 16. The other 194 are free. Every red mark carries its reason, the year and a named source: a regulator's notice, a BBC, France 24 or NBC report, a national outlet. Thin evidence meant free, not red. Three notes on how this map was drawn, because most lists blur them: › a country is marked only when the STATE acted. Russia is red because Roskomnadzor pulled the site out of the national DNS after 2 years of throttling; Myanmar stays free: it blocks Facebook and VPNs, not YouTube › an age law counts only where accounts are closed or barred: Australia since December 2025, Brazil and Indonesia since March 2026, Malaysia since June 2026. France is not marked — its under-15 ban was struck down by the Constitutional Council on 14 August 2026 › the United States stays free. Florida has enforced an under-14 account ban since November 2025, but 1 state is not the country, and which platforms it covers is still in court. Blocks that lasted days are not marked: Nepal, 4 days in 2025; Guinea, 19 days in 2026 Rules move fast: 5 of the 13 marks on this map were made in 2025 or 2026.
