Kaiser Wilhelm II blamed his English mother for an extraordinary number of things. He blamed her for the withered left arm he'd carried since the day he was born, for the death of his father, and, in a letter to his closest friend in the spring of 1888, for bringing the German Reich to the brink of ruin.
