Before coming to Arashiyama, Kyoto, I had watched several YouTube videos and picked out five or six highlights that looked worth filming and exploring. These gardens were one place I had seen little about, but they looked beautiful, so I decided to walk through them. I spent about 90 minutes in the gardens, walking the paths and listening to birdsong all around me. The paths were well maintained, but some areas were difficult to access with a pram or wheelchair because of the hills and gravel walkways. Spring colour was just beginning to appear, and I watched a gardener pruning a pine tree by removing some of the needles to shape it. I filmed the technique as he worked. There was also a small museum, the Okochi Denjiro Memorial Museum, set within a complex of gardens, houses, and a shrine that once belonged to the actor Okochi Denjiro. There was also a tea house near the start of the walk, with a free tea and coffee machine for visitors. I stopped there again at the end before continuing through the Bamboo Forest. I hope you enjoyed this video, and I cannot wait to share more of Arashiyama with you in the next one.
