Robotic Veneer Pairing with 2D Vision

This robotic veneer pairing system is now running in production at ‪@SwansonGroupMedia‬ , built in partnership with ‪@Con-Vey‬. 2D vision mounted on the robot tooling checks each sheet at the point of pick. It corrects for sheet skew so every pair is placed square, and it detects large voids so sheets that aren't worth pairing never make it into the stack. Good sheets are paired and placed square, and sheets with large voids go straight to a reject cart. Con-Vey's conveyors feed stacks to the robots and carry finished pairs out, so the robotics and material handling were designed together, by one team.
