In this video, I take you through the damage I found after a hot and dry August — from plants struggling with heat and drought to one unfortunate loss in my Ellwoodii hedge. I've talked about snow damage during the winter, wind damage, spring frost damage and even hail damage during the summer. But I never really talked about what may be the worst of all: scorching August heat. In this garden tour, I'll show you: Coneflowers that fell over because the soil became too dry A yellow, drought-stressed lawn The dead Ellwoodii that didn't make it through the summer Heat and drought damage to Black Lace elderberry Struggling raspberries, Hostas and Echinops Plants that surprisingly handled the heat very well Roses, Dahlias, Boxwood and Rosemary that came through beautifully I'll also show how I deal with some of the damage and stake up the Echinaceas later in the video.
