The nation of Judah had turned to idol worship, rejecting the true God. They were warned that if they did not turn back to God, they would end up surrendering to a foreign nation. That day came; Babylon took them captive. But there was hope. The prophet Jeremiah told them, surrender and you will live; they would return one day, and the Messiah would come through them. For some, hearing the word surrender can bring a picture of a loss of freedom and fear, but like the nation of Judah, He just wants our whole heart. For the believer in Christ, surrendering to Jesus is when we begin to really live, and the only way we can be truly free.
