I took a train deep into the mountains of Guizhou to do something almost no foreigner has: put on a Red Army uniform, pick up a rifle, and charge up a hill in a full-scale reenactment of one of the battles that founded Communist China — explosions, bugles and all. This is the Battle of Loushan Pass, re-fought at Loushanguan near Zunyi. Ordinary Chinese families — grandparents, kids, tourists — pay to live it, not watch it. It's part of a wave of wild, participatory "real-life side quests" taking off across China that most of the world has never heard of. This is the second one I've found. (The first was a disaster-survival simulator — link below.) Part travel guide, part history, part "what have I got myself into" — here's exactly how to get there, what it costs, and what it's actually like from the inside. ⚔️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Charging a Hill for Communist China 0:36 The Only Train That Makes It 1:15 How the Red Army Won Here 1:54 Into the Mountains 2:15 The Ticket Trap 3:33 Uniform & Rifle 4:26 The Show Begins 5:44 Into the Battle 8:43 Victory! 9:37 Free Lunch & the Closed Firing Range 10:44 The Taxi Tip Nobody Tells You 11:22 So What Did I Just Do 🚄 HOW TO GET THERE Take the high-speed train from Chongqing West → Loushanguan Station From Loushanguan Station it's a short taxi to the Loushan Pass Scenic Area (Loushanguan), Banqiao Town, Huichuan District, Zunyi, Guizhou Taxis wait at the site for the trip back — no stress getting out Tickets: book on Trip.com in advance, or just buy at the front counter on the day ⚠️ SHOWS RUN WEEKENDS ONLY — 11:30am and 4:00pm.
