What If Your Computer Screen Used REAL Sunlight? Meet the Woman Building It

Meet Liliana Lettieri, COO of Pixun Technologies, a hardware startup developing computer monitors that use concentrated sunlight delivered through fiber optics to illuminate the display. In this FoundHER & FundHER founder interview, Lisa McCarthy sits down with Liliana to explore an entirely different approach to computer screen technology, one that puts human biology and wellness at the center of the design process. Liliana's journey into this technology began with her own health challenges. Trained as a biologist, Liliana spent nearly a decade working as an engineering program manager before experiencing significant perimenopausal symptoms, including insomnia and disrupted sleep. As she began learning more about circadian rhythms, artificial lighting, and the relationship between light exposure and human physiology, she became passionate about finding better solutions. That search eventually connected her with an inventor who had developed an early prototype of a sunlight-backlit computer monitor. When she asked how she could purchase one, his answer changed her career: she would have to help build it. Today, Liliana is helping lead Pixun Technologies as the company works toward bringing its innovative display technology to market. In this conversation, you'll discover: How Pixun Technologies is developing monitors backlit by concentrated sunlight Why Liliana believes human biology should influence how screens are designed How her personal health journey inspired a new entrepreneurial direction The differences between conventional LED lighting and natural sunlight How a biologist became the COO of a hardware technology startup What it takes to move from an early prototype toward commercial manufacturing How Pixun secured its first angel investment and developed a third-generation prototype Why hardware startups face unique funding and manufacturing challenges The investors, researchers, optometrists, and strategic partners Liliana wants to meet Why meaningful founder relationships matter when building breakthrough technology Pixun's next chapter The company has developed a working prototype and is preparing for pilot programs, manufacturing development, and the capital needed to scale production. Liliana is particularly interested in connecting with investors passionate about emerging technology, human-centered design, lighting innovation, and wellness, along with optometrists and potential research or pilot partners.
