Vijaya’s Tomb is associated with King Vijaya, who is traditionally regarded as the first recorded king of Sri Lanka. According to the Mahavamsa, an ancient Sri Lankan chronicle, Prince Vijaya arrived in Sri Lanka from India with his followers and established a kingdom around the 6th century BC.
King Vijaya is an important figure in Sri Lankan history and legend because he is traditionally considered the founder of the Sinhalese kingdom. His story is closely connected with the early history, culture, and identity of Sri Lanka.
The tomb is located on Medagama Kanda, near Panduwasnuwara in the Kurunegala District of Sri Lanka. It has a circular, stupa-shaped structure and is surrounded by a peaceful natural environment. The monument is an important archaeological site and was officially declared a protected monument in 2007. However, there is no conclusive archaeological evidence to prove that it is the actual burial place of King Vijaya.
