A corruption investigation involving former IDAC head Advocate Andrea Johnson has been declared finalised after the Pretoria Director of Public Prosecutions reportedly declined to support investigative subpoenas sought by the Hawks. Public Interest South Africa, led by Tebogo Khaas, is challenging the decision and calling on National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andy Mothibi to review the matter. But the controversy goes further. Major General Ebrahim Ahmed Kadwa reportedly signed the Hawks' correspondence communicating the closure of the investigation. Kadwa is also facing criminal charges in a separate case alongside former Major General Feroz Khan. In this episode of Rules and Rulers, we examine the original complaint involving Johnson's participation in a recruitment process concerning her husband, the Section 205 subpoena dispute, and the questions surrounding the Hawks' decision. We also revisit the Madlanga Commission testimony about the 2021 Aeroton cocaine bust, allegations involving Khan and Kadwa, and WhatsApp communications between Khan and Johnson. We explore Andy Mothibi's parliamentary remarks and the unanswered questions surrounding institutional accountability within the NPA and DPCI. This episode distinguishes allegations, testimony and established facts. No association or allegation is presented as proof of criminal wrongdoing.
