Accused number three, Mthobisi Mncube, faced another full day of cross-examination in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial at the Pretoria High Court on 21 October 2026. Prosecutor Ronnie Sibanda confronted him with what lawyers for the accused, including his own, had earlier told the court about who was with him on the morning of 26 October 2014. Mncube put the difference down to a lawyer’s mistake, saying his co-accused’s advocate “is not a CD” that repeats everything exactly as it was told. The state then turned to the cellphone tower records and the evidence of state witness Sizwe Zungu, who testified that four of the accused were already at the Basotho hostel in Vosloorus when he arrived there that afternoon. Mncube accepts he was in Vosloorus but insists he never went to the hostel. “I hear the lies,” he said of Zungu, adding that a tower picking up his phone does not mean he was at the hostel. When the prosecutor put it to him that his explanation about another man using his phone only came after a later witness testified, Mncube fired back, “If you had not committed any crime…” Sibanda warned him not to accuse him of a crime. Mncube went further, citing the evidence of retired General Vincent Leshabane to allege that witnesses had been pressured to change their statements. The prosecutor said those people would come and explain. The cross-examination continues. #SenzoMeyiwa #MeyiwaTrial #MthobisiMncube #SouthAfricaNews #CourtNews Sources & Credits: Video clips and information used under Fair Use for news reporting, commentary, criticism, and public interest discussion.
