The Jaguar S-Type R is a 390hp supercharged V8 sports sedan that costs a fraction of a BMW M5 or Mercedes E55 AMG. Here's what it's actually like to own one - and what to check before you buy. This is one of the great bargains in used performance cars. The S-Type R runs a supercharged 4.2L V8 making around 390hp, it's lighter than its German rivals, and it handles better than most people expect - but it sells for two or three times less than an equivalent M5, Audi S6 or E55 AMG. The catch is that nobody tells you what owning one actually costs. In this review I go through the real market value, maintenance costs, build quality, the notorious climate control failure these cars are known for, brakes, suspension, and winter tire behaviour. Plus an honest look at how it stacks up against the German competition. If you're cross-shopping a cheap V8 sedan, this is the information you need before you buy, not after. Filmed in 2018 - the car and its faults haven't changed, but market values have firmed up since then as these became enthusiast buys. Treat the pricing as directional, not current. SPECS: Engine: 4.2L supercharged AJ-V8 Power: approx. 390 hp Torque: approx. 399 lb-ft Transmission: 6-speed automatic, rear-wheel drive 0-60 mph: approx. 5.3 s Production: 2003-2008 Note: 2002-03 cars used the 4.0L supercharged V8 at approx. 370 hp #JaguarSTypeR #CheapFastCars #CarReview
