Another venture outside of my home county, to visit Dartmoor in Devon. St Michael de Rupe church is one of the iconic landmarks of the west of the county. Founded in 1130, St Michael’s is the fourth smallest parish church in the UK, and believed to be the highest working church in southern England. Although the foundation is 12th Century, most of the church as you see it today dates to the 13th and 14th centuries, when the original chantry chapel was enlarged to act as a parish church. However, the church has been continually updated over the years to meet the needs of the local community. The church stands 1,110 feet above sea level on an ancient, extinct, volcanic cone. It is an ancient site – the current church is surrounded by an Iron Age earth-walled hill-fort (150BC – 50AD). Thank you for watching. #devon #dartmoor #drone #cinematic #church #tor #sunset
