Penguin Molting Season = Amazing Seasonal Hairstyles

It’s molting season for our Magellanic penguins! 🐧 Right now, some of them may look a little extra patchy, or a little fluffy, as they shed old feathers and grow in brand-new ones. This annual makeover is important because penguin feathers need to be completely waterproof. While they’re in the middle of their molt, the feathers aren’t watertight, so you’ll spot them hanging out onshore more often than usual, rocking their temporary “seasonal hairstyles.”
