Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad, Tarar alleged that PTI had become the “B-team” of the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), while Chaudhry claimed that 70% of terrorists involved in attacks in Pakistan were residents of Afghanistan. The allegations were made by the ministers as part of a broader criticism of the KP government’s counterterrorism policies. Afridi said the provincial government had repeatedly warned the state and federal government about the return of militancy, from militants moving to the mountains to their subsequent resettlement. He said the government had also held rallies, processions and protests in different districts of KP against the return of violence. A new round of indirect US-Iran talks is expected to take place as early as Monday, as Qatar and other regional mediators step up efforts to revive diplomacy between Washington and Tehran. Qatari officials are expected to hold separate meetings with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff as mediators work on changes to a proposed agreement. Over the weekend, Qatari officials continued shuttle diplomacy, holding separate discussions with US and Iranian representatives over possible changes to the proposed text.
