The main reason we made the 10-hour drive south, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer. I must say I was pleasantly surprised how many of the locomotives were actually running around, from some of them being used on the museum passenger train, to staged photo freights, to the grand finale parade at the end of each evening.
Some highlights include RBMN 1776 and NYSW 3634 on the passenger train, DL 1776 and Naugatuck 2798 on a photo freight with RWB blue TBOX boxcars and the TOYX caboose, and the parade at the end of the evening kicked off by ATSF 5704 leading.
All in all a wonderful event done fantastically by the NCTM and all participating railroads, and an even better way to cap off an incredible summer.
Enjoy!
