How Egypt Built the Impossible 300 KM River Through the Sahara

Egypt is attempting one of the most ambitious engineering projects in the Sahara: moving enormous volumes of water from Lake Nasser into the desert through the Toshka water system. At the heart of the project is a massive pumping station equipped with 24 giant pumps, built to lift water roughly 56 meters before sending it into the Sheikh Zayed Canal. From there, the water travels across the desert through a vast network designed to support irrigation and new agricultural development. But building this system meant far more than digging a canal. Engineers had to survey the desert, excavate deep into rock, construct a huge pumping station, install massive machinery, control seepage, line the canal, build regulators, and test the entire system before the first water could finally move through the Sahara.
