Citrus growers revise exports downwards amid trade, weather challenges

The Citrus Growers' Association has revised its 2026 export estimate down from 209.4 million to 197.9 million 15-kilogram cartons. This is a drop of eleven-and-a-half million cartons - or about five-and-a-half percent. It also falls below the 204 million cartons exported in 2025. These figures are clearly visible on the ground in the Sundays River Valley of the Eastern Cape, where packhouses are overflowing with fruit waiting for export. Farmers say it has been a punishing season, and they are now just hoping to make it through with minimal wastage. Kim Daniels reports...
