Christmas 1987 was the last normal holiday the Taylor family ever had. Three days later, 20-year-old Melissa "Missy" Taylor Ellison was found beaten to death inside her mobile home on Jacksonville's Westside. Her 13-month-old daughter, Casie, was found unharmed on the living room couch, surrounded by pillows. The killer had carried the baby out of the bedroom before leaving.
For 39 years, the case sat cold. Detectives collected shoe prints, a charcoal handprint, and tire tracks. The night after the murder, a man called 911 and said, "I'm sorry, I had to do it." None of it led to an arrest. Missy's mother, Catherine Taylor, spent the rest of her life grieving. She died in 2019 without ever learning who killed her daughter. The family never celebrated Christmas the same way again.
Then in July 2026, a 70-year-old man named Gary Edward Glowacz called the Clay County Sheriff's Office and said he wanted to "set things straight." He described the inside of Missy's home in detail that had never been released to the public. Investigators confirmed his account matched evidence documented at the scene in 1987. He had lived half a mile away. He had been arrested for a separate burglary in the same neighborhood on the very same day Missy's body was found. And no one had ever connected him to her murder.
This video tells the full story. Who Missy was before she became a case file. The night that destroyed her family. The investigation that went nowhere. The 39 years of silence. Her daughter Casie, who grew up as "the baby on the couch" and became a mental health advocate, memoirist, and the public voice demanding justice for her mother. And the phone call that finally ended the longest wait of their lives.
Casie Ellison was the first person detectives called the night of the arrest.
Her Name Was Missy.
ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
Cold Case Redemption tells the stories of the forgotten victims who finally received the justice they deserved. Every case here went cold, shelved for years, sometimes decades, until a breakthrough changed everything. We trace each investigation from the crime that started it all to the DNA hit, the buried clue, the overlooked witness, or the confession that finally cracked it open. This is about redemption: restoring names, giving families the answers they waited a lifetime for, and ensuring these victims are remembered for who they were, not just how their stories ended.
