Yangkeshu, Shangri-La: A Quiet Morning in the Village

Yangkeshu (央可树) is in Xiaozhongdian (小中甸), Shangri-La. From here we rafted the Shuoduogang River (硕多岗河), and harvested buckwheat in the fields. Stay at Yangkeshu Guesthouse (央可树民宿). The landlady is kind, and she cooks well: Sichuan food, and ordinary home dishes. The rooms are not expensive. Around the house it is a Tibetan village, not a stop on the way through. Open the window in the morning. Pigs, cattle, sheep, horses, crows, and magpies are already out on the grassland, feeding where they like. Nobody has arranged it. She also sells food from this place: dried yak, dried Tibetan pork, dried duck, wild mushrooms from this part of the Hengduan Mountains, and cheese. Stay if you want a Tibetan village at close range, or if city work has worn you out and you want a different day. Everyone arrives in Shangri-La with a different picture of it.
