Ice Lake, Yubeng: A Medium Hike, Then Nise

The Ice Lake trail is a classic Yubeng hike, and the difficulty is medium. It starts from Upper Yubeng (上雨崩). The climb is about 300 meters, and the lake sits around 3,881 meters. The grade is not steep. What makes it a medium day is the path: mud, horse dung, and sections that were hardened, so the water cannot drain. The forest is alpine fir, with trunks close to two meters thick. Upper Yubeng is a line of houses on the hillside. Stay at a guesthouse at the end nearest the trailhead. The walk from the other end is more than 700 meters, and that climb is wasted. The Ice Lake and Nise (尼色, also called 切尼色) are two areas split by a ridge.
