Watch this RC Rafale perform aggressive aerobatics against a stunning sunset backdrop, just as the moon rises over the horizon which provided for some really spectacular shots!
This flight session highlights the precision of the FMS Rafale 80mm EDF Jet through its entire flight envelope as it maneuvers aggressively at a low altitude both at low and high speeds, all in a beautiful scenic landscape.
I pushed the aircraft through sharp point rolls, tail-drifting loaded rolls and low-altitude passes to mimic the style of the French Airforce's Rafale Solo Display Team, but then I also went on to demonstrate its high alpha and inverted high alpha capabilities. Taking advantage of the rising moon to obtain some really breathtaking shots!
This setup features custom 3D printed nozzles which significantly improve thrust and overall confidence during jet flight. The aircraft is also equipped with a Jeti REX12A gyro-integrated receiver and a MUI200 current sensor, making it a capable RC fighter jet for demanding pilots. While the airframe requires some modifications to iron out engineering flaws, the resulting aerobatic maneuvers are incredibly rewarding to execute.

Compared to the Freewing Eurofighter and J-10, the modded Rafale offers more aerobatic capability in terms of easier CG centering, improved elevon authority, better knife edge and god-tier inverted high alpha performance, which the other two lack... but I'd struggle to recommend it to anyone in good faith without adding a healthy disclaimer about all the pain that the model's flaws have caused me: From servos frying on the workbench before even maidening, to retracts getting stuck, servos and wires installed in a way that makes them really hard to maintain or replace, cramped up battery spaces by design, mixing boards that are a tasteless joke, a canard mechanism that severely limits canard throws, canard securing mechanisms with awful and unnecessarily protruding nipples to house the locking screws, nozzles that aren't even correctly sized for the EDF they installed, nose gear door mechanism that doesn't work properly, nose gear retract that binds when retracting causing it to get stuck sometimes and/or forcing the steering servo when in retracted position, etc... I love flying this jet and it has really good post-stall features but I'm angry at FMS for their poor engineering design choices.

These were flights 39th to 40th on 'Yvette'. ;)

Motor: Brushless inrunner 3280 - KV2100
ESC: Predator 100A
UBEC: Freewing 8A
Servos: Replaced the wheel steering servo and one of the main gear door ones, then added an extra servo to control the nose gear door, left everything else stock
1x 8g Turnigy 1440
8x 12g Stock digital metal gear
Receiver: Jeti REX12A Assist
Current sensor: Jeti MUI200
Main battery: SMC HCL-HVP 6S 4400mAh
Receiver battery: CNHL 2S 650mAh
SETUP:
Full throws everywhere, huge expo (around 70-85%), three different flight modes with slightly different canard offset incidence. Canard pitches mostly down, barely any up deflection as I ran into mechanical adjustment issues due to FMS's stupid design mindset. Mixing board and pilot figure removed. Micro servo added to control the nose gear door. Nozzles replaced by Kallend's 3DP ones. Wires tidied up and battery slammed all the way back. I power the electronics from a separate 2S Li-Po through a 8A UBEC. I use the Jeti Assist gyro on all control surfaces in rate mode. CG is currently roughly about 130-140mm... and that's about it! More info soon... (maybe). ^^
