Comp Air 6 — The Forgotten Experimental Heavy Hauler | Airplane Alchemy

The Comp Air 6 is one of experimental aviation’s most ambitious aircraft — a large, all-composite utility airplane designed to haul serious loads while giving builders complete freedom to create their own mission machine. Built from fiberglass composite construction and offered with multiple wing configurations — one optimized for high lift and short-field performance, the other for improved cruise speed — the Comp Air 6 blurred the line between homebuilt aircraft and certified bush-plane capability. It wasn’t designed to be small, simple, or conventional. It was designed to be capable. With room for passengers, cargo, and powerful engine options, the Comp Air 6 represents a bold era of experimental aviation where builders weren’t just assembling airplanes — they were building personal utility aircraft tailored to their own adventures. And even today, passionate builders continue pushing the design forward with innovative modern projects that keep the spirit of experimental aviation alive.
