This week, farmer Christoph Inauen and his Sennen (herdsmen) brought their cows home from the alpine pastures. Their route led from Stoffleren via Leugangen, Weissbad, Steinegg, through the Hauptgasse of Appenzell, then on through Mettlen and along Lehnstrasse to Meistersrüte. A traditional Alpabfahrt (alpine descent), also called Me löönd aab or Öberefahre in Appenzellerland, this journey continues a living tradition of guiding the cattle home on foot at the end of summer.
