The excitement for our visit to Balfour in Mpumalanga was palpable, as it was our first time exploring towns in this province. As we drove through the town, we noticed signs of neglect, particularly the numerous potholes lining the streets. However, after speaking to some of the locals, we were struck by their enduring love for the town and their determination to make it a better place. This resilience was evident as we passed through the suburbs, where the properties were well-maintained and the gardens were beautifully tended, painting a starkly different picture from the town’s infrastructure.
