History: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train opened on May 28, 2014 as the final piece of Magic Kingdom's New Fantasyland expansion. Built by Vekoma with Walt Disney Imagineering, its mine cars swing side to side through every turn on a Disney-patented ride system. Imagineers first tested that swinging motion by mounting a plywood box in a pickup truck and driving it around their parking lot. The coaster runs on 2,000 feet of track with two lift hills, a top speed of 34 mph and no inversions. Its vulture figures were reused from Snow White's Scary Adventures, the classic Fantasyland dark ride that closed in 2012. Before the Mine Train: The ride stands on land that once held the lagoon for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage, which ran from 1971 to 1994. After sitting empty for about a decade, the lagoon was filled in and became Pooh's Playful Spot, a play area for young kids that ran from 2005 to 2010 before construction began on the Mine Train. Where else you can ride it: A near-identical version opened with Shanghai Disneyland on June 16, 2016. The layout is the same, but the songs are sung in Mandarin and the finale features a well filled with forest animals instead of the dwarfs' cottage. Ride system: Because Disney owns the patent on the swaying mine cars, this ride system isn't shared across different rides the way Mater's Junkyard Jamboree and Alien Swirling Saucers are.
