Before you choose a podcast microphone, format, guests, video setup, or publishing schedule, there’s a much more important question to answer: What job are you hiring your podcast to do? If you’re starting a podcast for your business, “have a podcast” isn’t enough of a strategy. In this episode of Talking the Talk: A Podcast About Podcasting, podcast strategist Courtney Reimer shares two of the many jobs a strategically designed podcast can do for entrepreneurs, founders, consultants, and service-based business owners: → Trust Builder: Help potential clients get to know how you think and work before they ever book a call with you. → Thought-Leadership Lab: Give you a place to develop, articulate, and pressure-test the ideas you want to become known for. Once you know what you actually need your podcast to accomplish, decisions about format, guests, video, publishing frequency, and all the other things podcasters are told they should do become a whole lot easier. Your podcast shouldn’t just fill a feed. It should earn its keep. ABOUT COURTNEY Courtney Reimer is the founder and principal strategist of Sounds Great Strategy and a former executive at Spotify, Audible, Yahoo!, Discovery, and MTV. She launched Meghan Markle’s #1-ranking podcast Archetypes at Spotify and now helps entrepreneurs and organizations build podcasts that become hardworking business assets. THE STRATEGIC PODCAST LAUNCH STUDIO The Strategic Podcast Launch Studio opens Monday, September 28, and there is one spot left. It’s a six-week, done-with-you experience for people ready to stop talking about their podcast idea and actually build it—with the strategy underneath it to give the show a fighting chance of earning its keep.
