A German prisoner sat beside German-born U.S. Army Sergeant Dieter Kober at Camp Ritchie and spoke more openly than the other POWs Kober remembered. Lieutenant Colonel Fellner explained how Hitler’s expansion of the army had opened officer school and rapid advancement to him. Their encounter happened over captured documents, during work Kober called “advanced clerical work.”
