The Hamaka Festival stands for “hamba,” “makina,” at “kabuhayan” which celebrations were part of the town’s age-old festivities or “Araw ng Pasasalamat” in February. The “hamba” symbolizes the city’s woodworks industry, “makina” for the garments industry, and “kabuhayan” for the agro-industrial sector. The word “hamaka” also refers to a bygone mode of transportation during the colonial times—a hammock carried by men for pilgrims who visit the Antipolo shrine. This year, Sinag Mananayaw ng Taytay Dance Troupe is committed to preserve and promote Taytay’s culture, heritage, and arts through Philippine folk dance.
