At one point, I didn't want to coach basketball anymore. I didn't want to play. I didn't even want to watch it on TV. That's how far I'd fallen away from something I'd spent most of my life loving. In this video, I'm sharing my personal basketball journey — from almost quitting as a high school player, to becoming a varsity team captain, to eventually achieving my dream of coaching at my hometown high school. But somewhere along the way, I lost sight of why I started. Coaching became something different than what I'd envisioned. I made mistakes, experienced burnout, and ultimately made one of the hardest decisions of my life: stepping away. That decision changed more than my relationship with basketball. Through working on myself, reflecting on my mistakes, and getting back into the gym with a group of sixth graders, I started to rediscover why I fell in love with coaching in the first place. I'm sharing this story because I know there are other coaches, leaders, and people who have experienced something similar. Sometimes the best thing we can do is step away, reflect, take responsibility, and come back with a different perspective. I'm now beginning a new chapter as a high school basketball coach, and I'll be documenting the journey — the successes, challenges, mistakes, and lessons along the way. If you're passionate about basketball, coaching, leadership, or personal growth, I'd love to have you follow along.
