Jones says Felix was his cat. He took him in as a kitten in January 2022. Fonseca does not deny that. But when the couple split in January 2024, Jones moved to his mother’s house, where he could not keep a cat, and left Felix behind. He says he did not want to separate Felix from her gray tabby, and that he planned to take him back within six months.
He did not file his case until October 2024. Then he missed the first hearing in December. His reason was a family matter: his twin siblings had just been born. The judge said that did not do it for her. Meanwhile, Fonseca had vet records, vaccination papers, and a healthy, well-fed cat sitting in the courtroom.
Fonseca also filed a counterclaim for storage fees on his boxes, and Jones wanted his belongings back too. The judge handled both.
The court dismissed Mr. Jones’s case. Felix stays with Ms. Fonseca, and the storage fee counterclaim was also denied.
