🌹 The thorns weren't trying to hurt Sleeping Beauty.
They were trying to protect her.
The Sleeping Thorn retells the familiar fairy tale from the perspective of the thorns surrounding the sleeping princess — not as part of the curse, but as a guardian that became too afraid to let her wake.
The world outside could hurt her.
So the Thorn kept it away.
No heartbreak.
No betrayal.
No pain.
No growing old.
For one hundred years, it gave her perfect safety.
And eventually, that safety became her prison.
“The Thorn is not evil.
The Thorn is love that became afraid of pain.”
This is not a story about a villain.
It is a story about what happens when protection becomes imprisonment — when love becomes fear, and keeping someone safe means keeping them from living.
As the thorns finally begin to break, the guardian is forced to confront the truth it has avoided for a hundred years:
“I kept you safe from everything that hurts,
but I kept you from the life you could have lived.”
If loving someone means allowing them to experience pain...
can it still be love if you never let them live?

LYRICS
[Verse 1]
I grew around the castle walls of stone
To keep her safe, to keep her all my own
The world outside has teeth beneath its flowers
I watched it swallow gentler things than ours
I saw the spinning wheel, I saw the blood
And pierced her hand, and watched the whole world sleep
[Pre-Chorus 1]
No heartbreak here behind my iron gate
No cruel betrayal, no unforgiving fate
I gave her hand a peace she never asked
Where time is frozen and the sorrows sleep
[Chorus 1]
Sleep, little one, in your golden room
Protected by the shadow of my bloom
I built a fortress out of pain and rust
To keep your fragile heart from human dust
(Soft choir whispers): Sleep... sleep... don't wake up...
[Verse 2]
One hundred winters passed without a sound
My heavy vines embrace the silent ground
You do not age, you do not feel the cold
You'll never know the curse of growing old
Is it a blessing... or a velvet cage
To be immortal on a frozen page?
[Pre-Chorus 2]
I hear a blade, I hear a horseman ride
To cut the walls I built to keep you safe
He comes to break the only peace I know
Does he not know what waits for you outside?
[Chorus 2]
Sleep, little one, in your golden room
Protected by the shadow of my bloom
I built a fortress out of pain and rust
To keep your fragile heart from human dust
(Choir whispers, slightly warped): Sleep... sleep... don't wake up...
[Bridge]
I pierced your hand... to save you from the rain...
I hid you here... so you would feel no pain...
But as he cuts my vines... I start to see...
Maybe I only saved you... from living.
[Final Chorus]
WAKE... WAKE INTO A WORLD YOU DO NOT KNOW
LEAVE THIS SLEEP, LEAVE THIS FROZEN HOME
I KEPT YOU SAFE FROM EVERYTHING THAT HURTS
BUT I KEPT YOU FROM THE LIFE YOU COULD HAVE LIVED
IF LOVE MEANS LETTING YOU FEEL THE PAIN
THEN LET THE THORNS BREAK, LET THE LIGHT BACK IN
[Outro]
I protected you...
Until the walls became the cage.
And now I don't know...
which side of the thorns
I'm on.
