🍎 A dark gothic waltz about envy, desire, and an ancient hunger that never dies.
“I was not born of hatred, but of wanting more...”
Borrowed Poison is Chapter III of What the Story Forgot by Hoang Nam — a concept album that revisits familiar fairy tales through forgotten voices, unseen perspectives, and invisible forces.
It has worn a mirror.
It has worn a wedding ring.
Now, it wears something red, and sweet, and waiting.
An ancient hunger moves from story to story, wearing whatever form the world gives it. It does not hate the hand it curses. It does not ask for forgiveness.
It simply waits.
And when one story ends, it begins again.
Set to a dark, haunting 3/4 Gothic Waltz, Borrowed Poison gives voice to something that has never needed a name of its own — because every story gives it a different one.

ENGLISH LYRICS
---
[Intro]
(Dark music box plays a 3/4 waltz rhythm)
(Plucked piano notes, rustling leaves in the background)
[Verse 1]
Every kingdom finds its way to feed me
I have waited beneath their skin a thousand years
Not born of hatred, born of wanting more
An ancient hunger, dressed in borrowed skin
I do not remember the branch, or the tree
I only remember waiting to be seen
[Pre-Chorus 1]
Every hand believes it chose me
I only wait for eyes that cannot see
Envy is patient, envy never dies
It only waits behind a prettier disguise
[Chorus 1]
Dance with me, dance with me, 1-2-3
I am the oldest guest at every feast
I wore velvet before I wore this skin
Your ending is where I begin
[Verse 2]
Her fingers close around my ruby shell
She cannot hear the story that I tell
I've worn a mirror, worn a wedding ring
Tonight I'm sweetness, tomorrow I'm the sting
[Pre-Chorus 2]
I do not weep for what I have to do
Regret's a human weakness, never mine
Close your eyes, the oldest dance begins
Every kingdom gives me another name
[Chorus 2]
Dance with me, dance with me, 1-2-3
I am the oldest guest at every feast
I wore velvet before I wore this skin
Your ending is where I begin
(Round and round... round and round...)
[Bridge]
Sleep now, sleep now, it's not you I hate
You were only next
I'll leave this skin the moment that you fall
And slip inside the next one after all
(Sleep now... sleep now...)
[Final Chorus]
DANCE WITH ME, DANCE WITH ME, DON'T MISS A STEP
I AM THE GUEST WHO NEVER LEAVES THE FEAST
I WORE VELVET, I WORE A RUBY SKIN
YOUR ENDING IS WHERE I BEGIN
[Outro]
1-2-3... 1-2-3...
Someone just opened the door...
"Poison never dies.
It simply borrows another name."
