Discover Mount Lebanon: Dmit, Baisour, Kfarmatta & Hammana . اكتشف جبل لبنان: دميت، بيصور، كفرمتى وحمانا . A journey through the heart of Mount Lebanon, where every village has a story waiting to be discovered. 🇱🇧 We start our day in Dmit, exploring one of Lebanon’s beautiful forest areas on foot — walking through pine trees, discovering native plants and herbs, and learning how new hiking trails are helping transform the village into a destination for nature lovers and families. But discovering a Lebanese village is never only about its landscape. We meet the women of Dmit who are preserving the tradition of mouneh, producing everything from jams and tomato paste to rose water, sage distillates and traditional drinks. Their work is also creating employment for local women while supporting farmers by using produce grown in the surrounding area. And, of course, no Lebanese village visit is complete without a generous breakfast prepared by the entire community! The journey continues through the history of the region, following old mountain routes once used to connect the Chouf with Beirut and discovering traces of the civilizations that crossed these mountains before us. Then comes another surprise: Lebanese pasta made from Lebanese wheat. We visit a local production facility transforming locally grown wheat into semolina and pasta — including award-winning lasagna — showing that quality products traditionally associated with Europe can also be proudly Made in Lebanon. In Baysour, we discover another women-led food production initiative, preserving recipes, creating opportunities and turning local agriculture into products that can reach a much wider market. From there, we continue into Kfarmatta, exploring extraordinary old Lebanese architecture and a historic silk factory dating back to around the 19th century — a reminder of the period when silk production helped transform the economy of Mount Lebanon and brought generations of Lebanese women into the workforce. Finally, we arrive in Hammana. Beyond its famous cherries and beautiful mountain scenery, Hammana reveals layers of religious diversity, heritage neighborhoods, old churches, traditional markets, hiking and outdoor activities, and its fascinating connection to French writer Alphonse de Lamartine, who lived here and wrote about the beauty of the surrounding valley. This episode is about much more than visiting villages. It is about understanding how nature, agriculture, food, history, women, craftsmanship and tourism can work together to keep rural Lebanon alive. Sometimes the Lebanon we are searching for is much closer than we think. We simply need to leave the highway, enter the village… and start walking. 🇱🇧 Discover Lebanon. Support local.
